Research

Joining forces in the Helmholtz Association are 18 scientific-technological and medical-biological research centers. The association’s task is to pursue long-term research objectives for the state and society. The Helmholtz Association is the largest scientific organization in Germany with 30,000 employees, 18 research centers and an annual budget of around three billion euros.

The association strives to acquire knowledge that will contribute to maintaining and improving people’s basic living conditions. To this end, it identifies and works on major and pressing questions related to society, science and the economy via strategic and program-based cutting edge research in six research areas: energy, earth and environment, health, key technologies, structure of matter, and transport and space.
